What's New In 2020
Over the course of 2020, FiscalNote collected client feedback in an effort to improve the overall user experience with Actions. The team promptly got to work on new updates that are designed to help save time with less data entry, provide more ownership with added customization options, and make reporting and collaboration easier with Filter improvements, among other enhancements.
We're excited to share what's new, what to expect, and best practices for working with the updates.
Titles
We heard that you need to, at a glance, see relevant information about each Action. So, we added the ability to add Titles for each Action. Use them to see a bird's eye view of all activity in FiscalNote, making it easier to understand where time and resources are being spent and what activities and issues are being prioritized:
Furthermore, titles are now included in the Calendar view. Instead of combing through placeholders for past or future Meetings, Emails, Phone Calls, etc., you can now view the Title and immediately understand the context:
Sync your calendar with FiscalNote's and use the enhanced view to navigate the work week.
Duplicate Actions
To make your life easier and cut down on data entry, we've added the ability to duplicate Actions:
Always logging phone calls on the same topic with the same office? Duplicate a past Action that was a phone call and change any remaining details that differ. Need to record notes on a recurring meeting with your stakeholders? Copy your last Action with them and change the date, time, and summary.
Duplicating is useful for Actions that might be frequently repeated, such as a weekly email update to stakeholders or a recurring meeting with a key contact
Filter by Label & Issue
Labels in FiscalNote is perhaps the most heavily used feature across all teams. They provide an additional layer of context and organization. For example, a lobbyist may use Lobbying Disclosure Codes 'LD-1' and 'LD-2' as Labels to quickly measure their work for filing purposes. A legislative tracker at a trade association may use Labels to indicate a sub topic discussed, such as 'Manufacturing' for an 'Airbags' Issue. To improve everyone's Actions experience, you can now filter Actions by Label:
Add a label when entering each Action. In the future, quickly and easily pull all meeting, phone call, or hearing notes on a sub-topic to share detailed insights on your organization's efforts.
Increased Attendee Limit
Actions such as Roundtable discussions, Conferences/Events, or Fundraisers, for example, tend to have more internal attendees than Meetings or Phone Calls. Account for those large events with the option to now add up to 30 Attendees per Action.

What's Planned for 2021
Email to Actions
Much like the new Duplicate Actions option, the team is planning on helping users save time by developing the ability to replicate an email as an Action in FiscalNote. For example, when sending an email to a key stakeholder, you will no longer have to copy and paste the information into the platform -- an Action will already be created on your behalf! The experience may look something like this:
Customizable Actions Types
In an effort to make FiscalNote meet your unique needs and not the other way around, our Product team is developing the option to create customized Action Types. If the out of the box options such as Meeting, Phone Call, Hearing, etc. don't accurately describe your interactions, you will be able to create your own!
The Actions Drawer
Colleagues will be able to improve day to day collaboration with an improved user interface that centralizes all the key functions of Actions into a single location. Stay on-screen and multitask with ease with flexibility that’s tailored to meet your team’s needs.
