Introduction

Policy reports in FiscalNote were designed to be easy to compile, while still providing a wealth of options to meet your reporting needs.  Whether that's sharing all policy being monitored, new policy for a specific topic, bills you support or oppose, or those requiring the most attention, FiscalNote has you covered.  We call these options The Core 4.  While there are endless possibilities for reporting on policy with FiscalNote, The Core 4 are most frequently leveraged, and are reports that every policy professional tends to have at-the-ready.  Follow our tips for each option and make sure you're prepared for the question: "Where are we on policy this session?" 

The Prep Work

For any policy report made with FiscalNote, follow "The 3 C's" to make sure you're prepared well in advance: Create, Connect, and Classify.  Create Issues to give yourself a place to store important policy documents.  Connect important policy documents to those Issues with the [+] Issues drop-down menu.  Classify your stance on any bill added to an Issue with a Priority and a Position.  Click here to learn more.

The Legislation Monitoring Report

The easiest of Reporting options to compile, The Legislation-Monitoring Report includes all policy being tracked by you or your team.  It captures every bill added to an Organizational Issue in FiscalNote this session, and automatically updates while you work.  Click here to learn more.

The 360° Issue Report

The idea of a comprehensive Policy Report can also apply to a specific Issue.  Your audience may not need to see bills being monitored for every single subject or vertical, but rather a very specific one.  For example, a vehicle safety organization may track bills related to Airbags, Speed Limits, Seatbelts, and more, but a client they work for may only ask for an update on Airbags policy.  Use the 360° Issue Report in this instance to cut out the policy noise from other topics.  Click here to learn more.

The Position Report

Before embarking on a compiling a Position Report, it is important to understand what your stance(s), or your client's stances on relevant Issues are.  A vehicle safety organization may only support bills enforcing stronger mandates for safety inspection practices, while opposing those that allow for less oversight.  A successful Position Report takes these stances into account for each bill shared.  Arm your policy Reporting practices with this information to gain an immediate understanding of all bills that either need to be promoted or require response work to halt the passage.  Click here to learn more.

The Priority Report

One of the most common questions legislative trackers will hear is "What are our most important bills this session?".  FiscalNote makes it easy to share this policy in just a few clicks with the Priority Report.  Create a High Priority Report showing all of the most important bills to monitor, or a more inclusive Priority Report that details all bills marked High, Medium, or Low.
