FiscalNote's mailing list feature allows you to create, store, and export lists of legislators and their staff so you can take action on important issues in the states and Congress. For state teams, you can easily create email lists of legislators by filtering by chamber, party, committee, and committee position. For federal teams, creating the same list of legislators enables you to filter down on staff titles and issue areas.
1. On the home page, click on the "Notes & Resources" tab, and select "Mailing Lists."
2. Click "Create List," which should load up a new window to enter a name for your mailing list, search for legislators, or go through several filters to refine your search.
- Give your new Mailing List a name - choose a descriptive name such as "Congress" so that you can remember the content of the list. To add the legislators you want to engage, search for them in the search bar or click the control panel icon to access our powerful filters.
- To search for legislators using filters, click the filter icon . You can select the state(s) you want to filter by typing under the "Legislatures" section and then filter by "Chambers," "Parties," and "Committees or Sub-committees." You must select at least one chamber and one party to continue. After you are satisfied with your filters, click "Search."
3. Now that you've found the list of legislators you'd like to create a Mailing List from, click on the top left checkbox of the list of legislators and choose "Select All." And then click "Add all currently selected", and then Save.
- You can remove legislators from the list on the right-hand panel by clicking the red "Remove Button" (for example, if there's one legislator that you know won't be receptive to your message).
- Finally, click the green "Save" button to create your list.
4. You can choose to include legislators or their staff. In this case, we want just the legislators, so we'll deselect staff. Next, you can click the "Email" button and email directly through your client or Gmail. By default, if you export directly to your Email client, the emails go into the BCC line. You can also export a .CSV file of your mailing list. It's just that simple!
