In addition to managing your relationships with legislators, bills, and committees, you can now create contacts for people and organizations outside of FiscalNote and outside of legislative bodies. If you already have a database of contacts, you can import these contacts onto the FiscalNote platform in bulk.
To import contacts to the platform, first, use the search panel and do an empty search under Your Team > People
Click on the "Import Contacts" button on the top right side of the screen and a window will pop up, prompting you to upload your CSV file.
In this window, we have a template for how to format your CSV for it to be compatible with FiscalNote. Click on fiscalnote_sample_contacts.csv. and it should open up into Excel or a CSV file. Now you can go ahead and fill in your contacts. You're only required to enter in the fields with an * next to it (First Name*, Last Name*, Title/Position*, Email*, Organization, Phone, Mobile, Address, Website, About). If you hover over the question mark next to Choose File, you can get more information about the file size you can upload.
Once you've uploaded your CSV file, click Import and your contacts will begin uploading to the platform.
If your CSV is missing a field but your import is largely correct, you will receive an error message informing you of what imported correctly in your CSV and what didn't. You can click on the blue "i" to learn more before you re-upload your CSV.
If you have a number of errors in your CSV, we encourage you to re-open the template link and try to enter in your information again. If you are still having trouble or don't understand why your file is not uploading correctly, please reach out to support@fiscalnote.com and we can help you complete your upload.
